Wildlife Research
The forest products industry in the northwest prides itself in using state-of-the-art tools, techniques and procedure’s in managing its vast forest resource. The industry directly funds primary research activities by universities, federal agencies and independent research organizations in order to further the scientific knowledge base needed to make the best forest management decisions.
Since 1986, NFA members have contributed over $5,000,000 to the Western Wildlife Program of the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI) Dr. Larry Irwin is the principle scientist leading this research effort. Dr. Irwin has lead research efforts on high profile species such as the northern spotted owl, the marbled murrelet, and elk as well as many other birds and mammals.
Western NCASI efforts are also underway in sustaining forest productivity and aquatic systems. Below is a list of wildlife related publications published by NCASI. To access a full list of NCASI publications, please visit www.ncasi.org/publications.
